Hello, you've reached the voice mail of Ellie Langford. If you leave a message with your name and number I'll try to get back to you as soon as I get the message.
We'll just have to wait and see whether or not they can spin this as us being terrible or not. Either way, try not to worry too much. I'm made of pretty sturdy stuff you know.
[ It's good it's text so he can't hear her actually sound worried. Nobody needs to know she was worried. ] I'm surprised it was just a slap on the wrist. Wonder what that'll end up meaning.
You doing okay?

[And the thing is, he believes that. It seems selfish to say anything else when he knows that there are people out there mourning the loss of their friends and their families, their children. It's hard to forget that one.]
I'm not saying I'm happy about what went down, but I'm okay.
[A few days later, they finally get back into contact with each other and agree to meet up again. In all honesty, he's still feeling tired down to his bones. Between the Hornet attack (and Bart, god, he's still not even touching that one), the mess in Bulgaria and the newfound realization that a couple kids around here have had some pretty awful experiences with Hisoka...
Well, despite his promise that he was going to get some rest, it hasn't been a very restful few days. Still, he's feeling a little more human, and certainly alive enough to take some time out of his day for a visit to the ice cream parlour.
He greets Ellie with a wave and a smile which, though genuine, is still just a touch tired.]
[ The ice cream place was small but it had a good solid assortment of ice creams, cones, waffle bowls, and toppings to choose from. It also had a bright pleasant atmosphere too it, completely with a distinctly fifties flare.
Ellie returned Jaime's smile and wave with one of her own. She noticed the edge of tiredness but chose to not comment on it just yet. Experience told her that nobody could be fully okay after seeing the aftermath of something like that. ]
Hey. So, anything you want at all, as much as you want, on me.
[A part of Jaime wanted to object to that, to tell her that he could pay for it just fine himself... but he had missed a good few days of work, and honestly, he knew she was just being nice. Instead of protesting, he just said,] Thanks, Ellie. You're lucky it's me you're offering that to instead of one of the speedsters.
[There's a limit to how much ice cream a soul can eat, after all.]
[ She chuckled and moved up to look at the different ice creams herself. ] Speedesters? You mean people with super speed or something? Do they end up eating a lot?
Oh, yeah. I think it's genetic, like they've got superfast metabolism or something. [He helped himself to a scoop of - admittedly plain - ice cream as he spoke, smacking the plastic spoon that they had given him thoughtfully against the edge of the dish.]
[ Great minds think alike. Or similar. She'd gotten vanilla herself, though she added some sprinkles just because. ] I guess that makes sense given their powers. Do yours have anything like that?

Maybe this will even look good for imports all around.

You doing okay?

Yeah, I'm okay.
[NOPE, HE'S TOTALLY NOT.]
no subject
Really? That's very impressive.
[ He can't expect her to believe that after all she's seen in her own life. Nobody is okay after things like that. ]
